Festy all the time!!

Every weekend it seems like there is a different festival...NOT a bad thing at all!

2 weeks ago my Friday school was closed due to JINAN DAY!!! Yes, my tiny little town has its own festival. What did this consist of? They set up the soccer field as a concert arena and had performers all night (yes, it ALSO included a Gangnam dance-off for little kids). The venue was surrounded with food and drink tents, and carnival games. I ate and drank all night with Jinan friends, and their friends that came to visit. We got to see all the "lanterns" (aka Paper Mache floats) in the river, and I even won some prizes at the games! I saw all my students, and danced with a few of them.

This past week was BIBIMBAP Festival in Jeonju. Bibimbap is a dish that reminds me of a taco salad. Meghan, Sam, and I headed into Jeonju and went to the traditional Hanok Village and milled around with the thousands of other people there for Bibimbap. Which was HARD to find. We found Makgeoli (a liquor) quite easily and did plenty of taste testing of that, but we wanted Bibimbap!! Finally, we just went into one of the restaurants there and ate. It might not have been at the open festival, but we could still see the festival out of the window.

After the fest, we headed to a "festival" for a friend - our buddy Tony was leaving to head back to America. So we went to the usual Foreign hot spots and partied into the wee hours of the AM. His "fest" was all about him - his close friends even made a video about their time with him. Now he is off on his next adventure - grad school in the states.

Ghamsamnida,
